At NY Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, PC in Brooklyn, NY, Dr. Steven Schwartz has added a new technology that can remove many unsightly skin growths and other lesions that appear inside the mouth (including on the tongue) as well as the lower area of the face including the chin, lips and lower cheeks. This same device is also used in many of the oral and maxillofacial surgery procedures that Dr. Schwartz performs in the office — placing implants, bone grafting, wisdom teeth removal, and other extractions.
Advanced Radiofrequency Surgery (known as RF) is a type of energy source that makes small incisions in soft tissue areas, such as the inside of the mouth or on the chin or lip. RF works by targeting water in the patient’s tissue cells and vaporizing them while creating a very clean, almost bloodless incision. By using RF to make these precise cuts, Dr. Schwartz can quickly and effectively perform these procedures in less time and with reduced patient discomfort.
Certain lasers and other electro-surgery machines may cause excessive soft tissue burns leading to slower healing with more redness and inflammation. When RF is used, only the tissue that comes into contact with the RF electrode is affected which results in less bleeding and minimal scarring. Advanced Radiofrequency Surgery can be used to treat the following:
- Moles, warts and other raised lesions
- Skin tags
- Age spots and other skin damage
- Small red facial veins
- Dental implants
- Bone grafting
- Wisdom teeth and other extractions
- Oral pathology
- Reconstructive and cosmetic chin surgery
- Injuries of the mouth and jaw
